TOPOLOGY OF A QUANTUM CITY CD released on aufabwegen records, Vienna
Having long appreciated Paul's complex, ambient constructions and layerings, the opportunity to contribute some drumming to Paul's reworking and deconstructing of his 1992 record Topology of a Phantom City arose in 2017. Philip recorded a series of tracks in anticipation of Paul's erotic, humid soundscapes. Two pieces from that session form the basis for two of the three tracks on this CD release.
For the sessions, Philip utilized a set-up and method of recording one multi-miced improvization on a prepared drum kit playing to a set BPM, then a second recording with a different drum and mic arrangement, performed in time to the original recording. This dual drum approach has been used on other projects from Kissed (2009) to more recent projects like Arrhythmia (2015-2017) and KTB (2017-2020).
