Burn-Up Scramble
(Complete Collection)
(dr. Hiroki Hayashi 2004)
published in Empire No.80, Sydney, 2008

As 80s anime otaku in Japan grow up to become middle-aged salary men, the anime industry has been led to provide nostalgic fare suited to these now-grown men. Sometimes it’s not that pretty a sight. The original Burn-Up! OVA series was chock-full of cops, busts and bust-ups. Think Showgirls meets Charley’s Angels meets Spearmint Rhino meets Law & Order. I taker that back – just think of big-breasted female cops with big guns. Burn-Up Scramble follows the exploitative exploits of the clandestine Warriors in this comedic bra-busting cop show in the most obvious ways, making it more predictable than perverse.
